Georgia lands five players on All-SEC Freshman Team

Much has been made of Georgia’s youth this season, as the Bulldogs are one of the youngest teams in the country. But Georgia also showed this year that it has some of the best young players in the country, as the Bulldogs placed a league-leading five freshman on the SEC’s All Freshman Team.

The five Bulldogs to make the team were: Quarterback Justin Fields, offensive linemen Isaiah Wilson and Cade Mays, defensive lineman Jordan Davis and punter Jake Camarda. The list was voted on by the SEC coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Wilson and Camarda were the only two freshman to start every game this season for Georgia, as Wilson did so at right tackle and Camarda at punter. Mays started seven games for the Bulldogs and likely would’ve started more had he not gotten injured in the Kentucky game. Georgia also got major contributions out of freshman Trey Hill, who started against Alabama in the SEC championship game.

Fields split time at quarterback this year with Jake Fromm. On the season, Fields completed 29 of his 37 pass attempts, while throwing for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns. Fields best game came against UMass, when he threw for 121 yards and ran for 100 more while scoring 3 touchdowns.

Davis came on later in the year, but his emergence was a big reason that Georgia improved after losing to LSU back on Oct. 13. Georgia brought in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in 2018 and it certainly lived up to the hype. The Bulldogs also seemed poised to have a number of players on next year’s All-Freshman team, as Georgia currently has the No. 3 ranked recruiting class for the 2019 cycle.

Georgia concludes its season on Jan. 1, when the No. 5 Bulldogs take on the Texas Longhorns. Below, you can see the entire 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team.
