ATHENS — The Georgia Bulldogs are headed to the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 30 against TCU, it was announced  Sunday.

The Liberty Bowl, which is set for Dec. 30 at noon in Memphis, emerged as Georgia’s most likely destination earlier in the week. (A run-down of why can be found in this story.)

A Liberty Bowl official said Sunday that the bowl “would be proud to have Georgia” but was awaiting word on assignments from the SEC. Georgia enters the bowl season with a 7-5 record, while TCU is 6-6.

Georgia’s first-ever bowl victory, incidentally, came in the 1941 Orange Bowl against … TCU.
