OXFORD, Miss. — A few Georgia fans wondered if Brice Ramsey might try field goals this week. The answer is no. Nor will be punt or play quarterback.

Ramsey is not on the trip to Georgia. Walk-on quarterback Sam Vaughn is on the trip in his place.

The absence appears to be injury-related: Ramsey was spotted with a wrap on his hand this week at practice, and wasn’t throwing with fellow quarterbacks Jacob Eason and Greyson Lambert at Wednesday’s practice. Ramsey was with the specialists, punting and holding.

Ramsey has yet to throw a pass, punt or kick this season. He entered preseason camp at least nominally competing for the quarterback job, but it was cut down to Lambert and Eason with a little more than a week to go before the opener.

Last season Ramsey finished as the punter, averaging more than 40 yards per attempt. But the punting duties this season have gone to freshman Marshall Long, who is averaging 39.7 yards on 15 punts, with five fair-catches and four downed inside the 20.
