From time to time, the staff at DawgNation will answer direct questions from readers about subjects pertinent to UGA football. This installment reflects the opinion of a few recruits after the big SEC road win at South Carolina this past weekend.
Georgia 41, South Carolina 17.
There were a handful of crossover recruits in attendance for that result last Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
What sort of impression did that leave in the minds of recruits?
That was the sort of question that a reader wanted to know about as well. Or at least I think it was a reader and not some sort of ghost or clone account from the fella who likes to eat at Waffle House and goes by the handle DawgNation Daily.
When DawgNation asks, we try to answer.
Here is a sampling of opinion that DawgNation was able to derive from a few select recruits about the game.
4-star CB Tyrique Stevenson (2019)
Miami Southridge HS/Miami, Fla.
Nation’s No. 5 CB / No. 41 overall
“They came out and did what they had to do. They dominated. They executed and they just came out on top.”
4-star ATH Jammie Robinson (2019)
Lee County HS/Leesburg, Ga.
Nation’s No. 28 ATH/ No. 337 overall
“It was a great game. … I thought [the Bulldogs] looked awesome. Especially on defense.” — 4-star ATH Jammie Robinson (undecided)
4-star TE Ryland Goede (2019 UGA commit)
Kennesaw Mountain HS/Kennesaw, Ga.
Nation’s No. 5 TE/ No. 169 overall
“Good to see the explosiveness on both sides of the ball. We are finally putting away teams that we should and its fun to watch for sure.” — 4-star UGA commit Ryland Goede
4-star S Lewis Cine (2019)
Trinity Christian/Cedar Hill, Texas
Nation’s No. 3 safety / No. 50 overall
“I think Georgia has a lot of talent and they are going to keep adding to that. A dominant performance on both offense and defense. They are really showing they are a championship contender.”
4-star DE Jacolbe Cowan (2020)
Providence Day School/Charlotte, NC
Nation’s No. 6 strong-side DE / No. 56 overall
“It was a very impressive win for Georgia against a very talented USC team. A game like that doesn’t really have any impression on me at all because at the end of the day I won’t be choosing a school simply based off a win. I still think highly of both football programs.”
“Both teams had very similar schemes. Being that they are SEC teams they primarily ran the 3-4 and sometimes went to a 4-3 on third down. I loved how aggressive each defense was and I thought both defenses played well.”
4-star DT Jamil Burroughs (2020 UGA commit)
McEachern High School/Powder Springs, Ga.
Nation’s No. 4 DT / No.61 overall
“They played to a high standard and they worked well together as a TEAM and Got the W.”
4-star DT Alex Huntley (2020)
The Hammond School/Columbia, S.C.
Nation’s No. 17 DT / No. 210 overall
“I think the Georgia defense looked great. Their run defense controlled the game. Watching them, you couldn’t tell that they lost a few guys last year. I think they only allowed 50 (rushing) yards.”
4-star WR Rico Powers Jr. (2020)
Benedictine/Savannah, Ga.
Nation’s No. 28 WR / No. 181 overall
“It was a good game but then UGA took off.”
