After getting walloped 18-1 by NC State on Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs evened the series with an 11-2 win on Sunday, forcing a game 3 for a spot in the College World Series.
Georgia announced a game time of 7 p.m. ET for Monday’s decisive game. ESPN will televise the game.
The Bulldogs came away with a big win on Sunday thanks to home runs from Slate Alford, Tre Phelps, Paul Toetz and Corey Collins. Starter Leighton Finley threw 6.2 innings in the win, striking out 5 and surrending just one run.
“I thought it was a good bounce back today,” Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson said. “It’s what they do, nothing special we did as coaches. We just got them ready to play, and these guys went and did it. For us, the bounce back was huge, and we just stayed focused on playing the game. Obviously, scoring those two right there in the first got us off to a great start. Leighton (Finley) threw the ball extremely well. It really put our bullpen at ease a little bit because you never know what you’ll have to do in a game like this.”
A win would send Georgia to its first College World Series since 2008. In that year, Georgia beat NC State in the Athens Super Regional.
