2018 SEC Championship preview

We could know both teams that will be in the 2018 SEC Championship game by the end of today. Georgia locked up its spot in the title game as the SEC East representative, as the No. 6 Bulldogs knocked off No. 9 Kentucky 34-17. For the second year in a row, Georgia went 6-0 against SEC opponents.

As for the SEC West, No. 1 Alabama locked up its spot in the game after beating No. 3 LSU 29-0. Alabama is the SEC’s last unbeaten team and the Crimson Tide have won three of the past four SEC titles.

It’s worth point that the same LSU team that got stomped by Alabama at home also beat Georgia 36-16 on Oct. 13. Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm really struggled against LSU, as he completed only 16 of his 34 pass attempts while also tossing two interceptions.

Alabama has SEC games left against Mississippi State and Auburn, while Georgia hosts Auburn next week. A game time for the Georgia-Auburn game has not yet been announced.

Georgia beat Auburn 28-7 in the 2017 SEC Championship game, punching the Bulldogs’ ticket to the College Football Playoff. Alabama, despite not playing in the SEC Championship game last year, also participated in the College Football Playoff. Georgia and Alabama later met in the national championship game last season, with Alabama winning 26-23 in overtime thanks to a touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa. That game was also played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

With Georgia beating Auburn last year, it ended the SEC West’s streak of seven straight wins over the SEC East in the conference championship game.
