Georgia starting left tackle Andrew Thomas left the game against South Carolina on Saturday after suffering a left ankle injury in the third quarter.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart confirmed after the game that Thomas had a sprained ankle, but said he does not know the severity of the injury.

Athletic trainers tended to Thomas on the field for a little while following the injury before helping him off the field. Freshman tackle Cade Mays came in to replace him at left tackle.

After spending some time in the team’s injury tent, Thomas was seen on the sideline with his helmet in hand. CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl said on the broadcast that the team equipment managers gave Thomas a bigger shoe that could fit his ankle even with some additional tape.

Thomas started all 15 games at right tackle as a true freshman in 2017. He was named to the FWAA Freshman All-America team.

Mays was a 5-star recruit and the No. 1 player from Tennessee in the Class of 2018.
