You never really know about some people until adversity happens.

UGA star D’Andre Swift has clearly stepped up this week as a Bulldogs leader in the aftermath of the embarrassing upset loss to unranked South Carolina.

Swift, who is normally soft-spoken but candid with his public remarks, sent out an Instagram message (above) to rally his teammates and the UGA fans that said, “Whoever Counting Us Out, Can’t Count!!!”

Earlier in the week, Swift had a popular answer for fans when he was asked if he’d like to see more creative play-calling as a way to help the team’s running backs create big plays: Most definitely. I think we need to do a better job of getting the ball to the playmakers in space and getting the ball outside a little more.”

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart pretty much said the same thing as Swift, telling reporters, “I think we need to do a better job of getting the ball to playmakers in space and try to get the ball outside a little more. Outside zones, screens, stuff we need to work on in practice, to get better at those things.”

UGA offensive coordinator James Coley has been criticized this week for the teams’s predictable play-calling in the stunning loss to South Carolina.

Back to Swift: He also took blame, saying he needed to “do a better job breaking tackles.” He is a fringe Heisman candidate as a junior, but this may be his last season with the Bulldogs as he is a candidate to declare early for the NFL Draft.
