Georgia football podcast: G-Day proves UGA has college football’s premier fan base

Beginning of the show: Georgia fans outdid themselves again Saturday — packing Sanford Stadium to the tune of nearly 83,000 for the annual G-Day scrimmage. This is just the latest in a seemingly endless list of examples of DawgNation showing up in overwhelming numbers to support the football team in a way that no other fan base in the country can match. I’ll talk more about that subject and share audio of what Kirby Smart had to say about that subject.

Eight-minute mark: I’ll address the quarterback competition between Jake Fromm and Justin Fields, and explain why being impressed by Fields doesn’t require dismissing Fromm.

15-minute mark: DawgNation insider Chip Towers joins the show. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Thoughts on the fans filling Sanford Stadium
  • Evaluating the Fromm-Fields quarterback competition
  • Was the wide receiver play a little concerning?
  • What to make of linebacker Monty Rice’s breakout performance?
  • How impressive is Georgia’s depth?

30-minute mark: I take a look at some other SEC headlines, including Alabama still trying to figure out its quarterback position, the Crimson Tide taking over the No. 1 slot in the 2019 recruiting class rankings, Jeremy Pruitt providing volatile quotes after the Tennessee spring game, LSU’s quarterback job still being unsettled and Kirby Smart looking for leadership on the Bulldogs.

End of show: I update the Gator Hater Countdown.
