Georgia football is the No. 1 topic every day on DawgNation Daily — the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans. Catch up on everything happening with UGA athletics with host Brandon Adams and the DawgNation experts as they break down the latest Georgia football recruiting news and discuss coach Kirby Smart’s quest to return the Bulldogs to the top of the SEC. On episode No. 1,214 (June 11, 2020) of the podcast, Georgia fans can hear a discussion about why the anticipated regular season matchup between Georgia and Alabama on Sept. 19 is just as important for the Crimson Tide as it is for UGA.

Georgia football podcast: Anticipated matchup as important for Alabama as it is for UGA

Beginning of the show: One of the most-talked-about games in the country this season will take place Sept. 19 when Georgia travels to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide. It will be UGA’s first trip to Tuscaloosa since an overtime win in Alabama coach Nick Saban’s first year with the Crimson Tide in 2007, and the first showdown between the two programs since the Bulldogs let a lead slip away in the 2018 SEC championship game, a year after a similar storyline unfolded in the 2017 national championship game.

The recent memories of heartbreaking losses vs. Alabama put a spotlight on UGA coach Kirby Smart as he attempts to get over the hump and become the first former Saban assistant to earn a win against his old boss.

However, I’ll explain on today’s show why Smart isn’t the only coach who’ll face pressure in this game. I’ll discuss the criticism Saban is likely to hear if Alabama comes up short again in a high-profile contest.

10-minute mark: I share audio of Smart discussing the “adversity” his UGA players have overcome as the program attempts to navigate the start of the season in the wake of the coronavirus.

15-minute mark: Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan joins the show. Some of the topics covered include…

  • Possible changes to UGA’s offense
  • The threat to UGA from Florida in the SEC East
  • Whether Alabama remains the team to beat in the SEC
  • And the likelihood the league could produce a surprise team this season on par with what LSU did in 2019

30-minute mark: I take a look at other SEC storylines including the league’s decision to make its Media Days event virtual, four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson’s upcoming commitment announcement, four-star linebacker Xavian Sorey’s top five and Auburn landing a grad transfer quarterback from Bowling Green.

35-minute mark: I thank Sock Fancy for its partnership with DawgNation as we gave away 1,000 masks to a local daycare.

End of show: I share the Gator Hater Updater.
