Georgia football is the No. 1 topic every day on DawgNation Daily — the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans. Catch up on everything happening with UGA athletics with host Brandon Adams and the cast of DawgNation experts as they discuss UGA coach Kirby Smart’s quest to return the Bulldogs to the top of the SEC and break down the latest Georgia football recruiting news. On episode No. 569 (Nov. 2, 2017) of the podcast, UGA fans can hear a discussion about how UGA can stay at No. 1 the rest of the season.

Georgia football podcast: A key stat that shows how UGA can stay No. 1

Beginning of the show: Georgia has dominated most of its opponents so far this season, but in the coming weeks ― definitely vs. Auburn on Nov. 11, and possibly vs. Alabama in the SEC Championship Game ― UGA is going to see something it hasn’t seen much: teams that outperform the Bulldogs in a key area. Both the Tigers and Crimson Tide have sacked quarterbacks more frequently than UGA and have collected more tackles for loss. On the Thursday show, I’ll explain why those two stats are crucial indicators of which team will rise to the top of the standings at the end of the season, and what UGA needs to do to keep pace.

10-minute mark: I’ll share some audio from UGA coach Kirby Smart about becoming the No. 1 team faster than some experts would’ve thought.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Seth Emerson joins the show. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Being at practice with the No. 1 team in the country
  • Whether being No. 1 puts additional pressure on UGA
  • South Carolina defensive back Chris Lammons’ claim that UGA’s offense “can’t pass”
  • UGA’s offensive line improvement
  • UGA running back Nick Chubb’s thoughts on not being in the Heisman conversation

30-minute mark: I take a look at some other SEC headlines including a serious accusation against Tennessee coach Butch Jones, the chances Florida makes a quarterback change, some competition for the Gators with a coaching candidate thought to be near the top of the list of likely replacements for Jim McElwain, and a look at some increased pressure on Alabama in the wake of criticism of its schedule strength.

End of show: I ask whether Georgia will do much in Sanford Stadium on Saturday to acknowledge its No. 1 ranking.
