Georgia football podcast: UGA fans curious about promised Signing Day ‘surprise’

Beginning of the show: Georgia hosted an impressive collection of 4- and 5-star recruits during the weekend. Expectations are high that UGA will make a run at the country’s No. 1 class when the early signing period begins Wednesday. Adding to those hopes is a curious statement from DawgNation recruiting insider Jeff Sentell from the Friday episode of DawgNation Daily. I’ll share the audio of what Jeff said and attempt to determine what the surprise is on this show.

10-minute mark: I talk about the brief hesitation 5-star offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer showed about signing his letter of intent Wednesday.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Chip Towers joins the show. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Chip’s thoughts on the potential of a historically good class for UGA
  • What Oklahoma fans are saying about UGA
  • Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield’s “nice guy” act ahead of the Rose Bowl
  • An update on what could happen with UGA linebacker Natrez Patrick
  • And a preview of the upcoming week of Rose Bowl preparations for UGA

30-minute mark: I discuss some other SEC headlines, including Florida turning its recruiting attention to 4-star quarterback Emory Jones, Alabama flipping cornerback Josh Jobe from Miami, why Crimson Tide cornerback Levi Wallace thinks his team is viewed as “villains,” why Auburn coach Gus Malzahn thought he’d be fired if the Tigers lost the Iron Bowl, and a setback for Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt in filling out his staff at Tennessee.

35-minute mark: I discuss another national website that is including UGA running back D’Andre Swift on its list of 2018 Heisman contenders.

End of show: I address the visit to Florida State by James Cook, a 4-star running back and UGA commit, and update the Gator Hater Countdown.
