Georgia football podcast: UGA can’t play the underdog role vs. Alabama

Beginning of the show: Georgia is technically the underdog at Alabama Saturday. The Crimson Tide has been favored for most of the week. However, UGA won’t have much of an opportunity to play up that underdog role ahead of Saturday’s game. There are plenty in the national media picking the Bulldogs to win, and UGA coach Kirby Smart has worked to make games against programs such as Alabama a fair fight. I’ll discuss more on today’s show why UGA’s attempt to beat the Crimson Tide won’t be aided by the extra motivation of being able to say, “Nobody believes in us.”

NOTE: This broadcast was recorded prior to the news Alabama coach Nick Saban tested positive for coronavirus.

Eight-minute mark: I preview five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims’ decision.

10-minute mark: I discuss the challenge awaiting the UGA defense against Alabama’s high-powered offense.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Mike Griffith joins the show. Some of the topics covered include…

  • More on UGA’s defense against the Crimson Tide
  • Whether Alabama feels extra motivation after the way it played against Ole Miss
  • And more

30-minute mark: I take a look at Florida pausing football operations after a number of positive coronavirus tests.

35-minute mark: Former UGA quarterback David Greene joins the show to discuss Stetson Bennett’s accomplishments thus far this season.

End of show: I briefly mention UGA wide receiver Tommy Bush’s condition after being involved in what is being described as an alleged hit-and-run incident and I share the Gator Hater Updater.
