Georgia football podcast: UGA attempting to keep pace with national elite

Beginning of the show: Georgia coasted to another easy victory Saturday and moved up to No. 2 in the AP Poll. However, other top national teams — including Alabama and Ohio State — posted impressive performances as well. I’ll talk on today’s show about how UGA is positioned for the College Football Playoff race after three weeks.

10-minute mark: I go Around the DawgHouse — presented by Pella Windows and Doors — and share audio from UGA coach Kirby Smart on some key issues from Saturday — including running back D’Andre Swift’s status and the scuffle involving outside linebackers D’Andre Walker and Brenton Cox.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Chip Towers joins the show. Some of the topics covered include…

  • The possible issue that kept Swift sidelined for most of Saturday
  • The possible emergence of running back Elijah Holyfield
  • Chip’s thoughts on the spat between Cox and Walker
  • An assessment of UGA’s offense
  • And a look at what the Bulldogs offensive line could look like if left tackle Andrew Thomas — who’s been dealing with an ankle injury — misses the Missouri game

30-minute mark: I discuss other SEC headlines including LSU’s win vs. Auburn, Alabama’s blowout vs. Ole Miss, Missouri’s close call against Purdue and a former Florida wide receiver’s pointed criticism of the Gators.

35-minute mark: I award UGA wide receiver and kick returner Mecole Hardman as the RS Andrews Cool Under Pressure performer of the week.

End of show: I update the Gator Hater Countdown.
