Georgia football podcast: Kirby Smart’s response to Gus Malzahn is perfect setup for rivalry game

Beginning of the show: Auburn coach Gus Malzahn recently claimed that Georgia is the SEC’s most talented team. It’s a relatively innocuous claim, and not an unusual statement for a coach to make about his opponent during the week of the game. However, UGA coach Kirby Smart had a sarcastic response when asked about Malzahn’s comments this week.

I’ll explain on today’s show why the mild back and forth between Smart and Malzahn could be exactly what’s needed to spice up the UGA-Auburn rivalry.

10-minute mark: I discuss what the fan experience will be like Saturday night at Sanford Stadium.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Mike Griffith joins the show. Some of the topics covered include…

  • Mike’s interview with UGA deputy athletic director Josh Brooks regarding what to expect at Sanford Stadium vs. Auburn
  • The exchange between Smart and Malzahn regarding UGA’s talent level
  • The status of quarterback JT Daniels
  • And some thoughts on UGA’s running game

35-minute mark: I take a look at other SEC headlines including an odd exchange between South Carolina coach Will Muschamp and a reporter about a leaked video of Muschamp using foul language, a Florida defensive back who says he’s eager to prove somethign after the Gators’ performance at Ole Miss, a four-star quarterback being ruled ineligible and a wild video from Louisville basketball coach Chris Mack taking Kentucky coach John Calipari to task.

40-minute mark: I share audio of Smart discussing quarterback JT Daniels.

End of show: I share the Gator Hater Updater.
