Georgia football is the No. 1 topic every day on DawgNation Daily — the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans. Catch up on everything happening with UGA athletics with host Brandon Adams and the DawgNation experts as they break down the latest Georgia football recruiting news and discuss coach Kirby Smart’s quest to return the Bulldogs to the top of the SEC. On episode No. 1,215 (June 12, 2020) of the podcast, Georgia fans can hear a discussion about why Georgia’s defense doesn’t seem to generate as much publicity as the country’s top offenses despite the fact that UGA’s defense has consistently ranked among the top units in the SEC under coach Kirby Smart.

Georgia football podcast: UGA’s elite defense is too frequently overlooked

Beginning of the show: College football fans are no strangers to shouting about possible biases in the way teams are covered. It’s not unusual to hear it said that a particular media outlet favors a certain coach or team. However, I’ll explain on today’s show that the bias that possibly works against Georgia has nothing to do with an unfavorable opinion of UGA coach Kirby Smart or the Bulldogs in general. It’s about a disregard that some writers and talking heads seem to have for defense — which is the side of the ball in which Smart has excelled since coming to UGA.

10-minute mark: I briefly discuss the tough circumstances surrounding a serious criminal charge against former UGA player and staffer Bacarri Rambo.

15-minute mark: DawgNation’s Connor Riley joins the show. Some of the topics covered include…

  • UGA’s rank in the so-called “Blue Chip Ratio” from 247Sports’ Bud Elliott
  • Why running back Zamir White ranks as one of UGA’s most important players
  • And some thoughts on UGA’s quarterback depth if recent USC transfer JT Daniels is given immediate eligibility

30-minute mark: I discuss the latest SEC headlines including some recruiting news involving recent LSU de-commit Dakota Mitchell and four-star linebacker Xavian Sorey.

End of show: I discuss Sporting News’ list of top SEC coaches, invite DawgNation Daily listeners and viewers to participate in the Father’s Day giveaway from Kroger and share the Gator Hater Updater.
