Fan Sound Off: Dawg Nation howls after rout of ‘loud-mouth’ Gators
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Citizens of Dawg Nation dominated the scene at EverBank Field on Saturday, staying throughout Georgia’s 42-7 romp over Florida.
Dawg Nation was equally amped on social media. And the fans cover a lot of ground in this week’s edition of “Zaxby’s Fan Sound Off.” Here is a sampling of comments made on the Dawg Nation Facebook page.
Some comments have been edited for space, content and clarity.
Bobby Gillett: “I am so glad we let them talk smack, and we didn’t let it bother us, and we didn’t give in and give it back. Respectful. We earned the win we deserved. We practiced and focused for THIS game and it shows. Great year DAWGS – now NEXT! 🐶🐾🔴⚫️”
Mark Shreiner: “It’s like Vanderbilt trash-talking ‘Bama. ‘You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit in the wind, and you don’t mess with a junkyard dawg.’”
Jean Whitten Mobley: “So proud of the way the Dawgs played today, and the way you concentrated on your game. You stayed focused all week and did not get sidetracked by the loud-mouth Gators.”
Ric Cobb: “The (college football playoff) committee’s job is to ensure the four best teams are selected to be in the playoff without regard to conference affiliation. If Alabama and Georgia are both 12-0 going to Atlanta, ranked #1 and #2, a 12-1 loser could still easily be one of the four best teams, provided there are no other undefeated conference champions.”
Jim Tanner: “With all the talk of the SEC being down and weak, it would not surprise me to see Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Clemson as the top four. Followed by Miami, Va Tech, both the Oklahoma, USC and Texas.
Billy Ely: “Kirby Smart has something Jim McElwain doesn’t have – “Class!” Do you think coach Mac would have played reserves in the 4th quarter had Fla been up 42-0? Heck, no.”
Berto Blanco: “Kirby Smart and Jim Chaney need to let Jake Fromm throw the ball more. Georgia is not going to beat Alabama with Fromm throwing the ball 7 times. The kid needs reps in games. He’s got handing the ball off down.”
Christopher Taylor: “I got pretty frustrated in the 2nd quarter. I know the run up the middle is UGA’s bread and butter, but we need to get D’Andre Swift involved when we stagnate like that. I was hoping to hang 50+ on the Gators.”
Carlton Isaiah Spivey: “Another huge win for Georgia down there in Jacksonville. That running game and offensive line is something serious. That offensive line was getting pushed around during the start of the 3rd quarter, but UGA picked it back up again. Chiefly, UGA does need to start using the tight ends more in the passing game and throw the ball more as a whole. Georgia has some good receiving weapons, so why not use them a bit more? UGA will have to open up the passing game more”
