UGA vs. Georgia Tech named one of college football’s top 10 most exciting games from 2014
UGA’s overtime loss to Georgia Tech last year was named the fourth-most exciting game from the 2014-2015 season by Thuuz Sports, a mobile app with an algorithm that monitors exciting moments and games.
For many UGA fans, the loss to that rival team from down the road is not a fond memory. In fact, behind Todd Gurley’s kickoff return against Clemson, Nick Chubb’s touchdown run against Arkansas and pretty much the entire Auburn game, the Georgia Tech game is pretty far down the list.
In a press release from Thuuz Sports, the company stated that they used an “excitement algorithm” that measures social media buzz, momentum and context, among others.
The UGA-Tech game offered several exciting moments, including a blocked field goal, a 99-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and a late touchdown drive to put the Bulldogs ahead. Unfortunately, the game will be remembered by UGA fans for a bunch of missed chances and a very rare loss in a recently lopsided rivalry.
Many may wonder if the game would have turned out differently had the Bulldogs not learned that they missed out on an SEC East title only a day before. If the team came out flat, however, the game didn’t reflect it, at least not according to Thuuz Sports.
For those who are curious, the most exciting game according to Thuuz Sports was Alabama’s loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinal game.
Georgia Tech’s upset victory was only its second win over UGA in the past 14 years, so perhaps that added to the increased excitement?
