Georgia’s secondary could soon get a big boost from a former top recruit as Deangelo Gibbs has enrolled in summer classes, according to a report from The Macon Telegraph’s Jason Butt.

Gibbs was not enrolled at Georgia during the spring semester so he was not able to work out with the team or participate in spring practice. Gibbs had been dealing with a shoulder injury. He did not play down the stretch for Georgia last season and did not travel for the SEC Championship Game, Rose Bowl or the National Championship Game.

The defensive back was one of Georgia’s top recruits in the Class of 2017, ranked No. 49 in the country, per the 247Sports composite.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart previously has said that he expected Gibbs to return to the team.

“He’s doing very well with rehab. We anticipate a full return in the fall,” Smart told reporters in March.

Georgia will have a number of new faces in the secondary this season, as it will have to replace Dominick Sanders, Aaron Davis and Malkom Parrish. Gibbs projects to possibly slide in at the Star position, where he saw reps with the second team in 2017.

The Bulldogs open the 2018 season against Austin Peay on Sept. 1.
