ATHENS — Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is headed to the Buffalo Bills, selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Bills selected Fromm with the 167th overall pick, making him the eighth quarterback selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Fromm finished had the NFL draft evaluation process with momentum, his video interviews impressing general managers and coaches.

But when Fromm slid past the fourth round, many pointed to some leftover questions after the NFL combine. Some had challenged that Fromm lacked sufficient arm strength, others pointed to his hand size.

Fromm, however, maintained an upbeat tone, perhaps steeled by a challenging junior season at Georgia where he dealt with great expectations, afforded small margin for error.

The Warner Robins, Ga., product certainly left his mark in Athens.

Fromm quarterbacked Georgia teams that finished 13-1, 11-3 and 12-2, becoming the first full-time SEC East QB in history to reach the league title game three consecutive seasons.

Fromm dominated rivals along the way, 3-0 against Florida, 3-0 against Tennessee, 3-0 against Georgia Tech and 3-1 versus Auburn.

“Whoever gets him is going to get a gym rat type of guy,” ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said, “and a guy that can do some exciting things.”

Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, a former NFL scout with Green Bay, Seattle and New England, has been high on Fromm throughout the process.

“He’s such a quick processor, to watch this guy go through his progressions, he knows exactly where to go with the football,” Nagy said. “Jake is so smooth with his eyes, so decisive, he’s very accurate, he has a great feel in the pocket, and he’s mobile enough.”

Perhaps the most telling endorsement of Fromm came from a rival, and a defensive player, at that.

“He controls the game, he never gets rattled, stays within himself, and he understands what he possesses as a player and doesn’t do too much,’ Florida defensive end Jonathan Greenard told DawgNation at the NFL combines. “He’s always going to keep you guessing. If he needs to tuck it and run, he’ll do that a bit. But he’s a very smart guy.

“He’s one of the best quarterbacks I played against, and I played against the top quarterbacks.”
