ATHENS — Georgia football’s chances at making the College Football Playoff took a sizable hit, down to 16.1 percent, according to the ESPN/FPI predictor.
ESPN analyst and College Football Playoff reporter Heather Dinich elaborated on how the Bulldogs’ shocking 20-17 double-overtime loss to South Carolina will be viewed by the CFP Selection Committee.

“It’s obviously a huge dagger for them, not just because of the loss, but how they lost,” Dinich said. “Four turnovers, uncharacteristic game for Jake Fromm.”
Indeed, it was Fromm’s first-ever three interception game, and within that, the junior QB threw his first career Pick-6.
Dinich noted the Bulldogs remain in control of their own destiny, as far as winning the SEC Championship should they win out.
“Here’s the thing, they can overcome it if they don’t play like this ever again,” Dinich said. “They have opportunities, they have Auburn, we mentioned the Florida game.”
The ESPN/FPI rankings give George a 28.9 percent chance of winning the SEC Championship Game but only a 9.6 percent chance of winning out.
Dinich reminded the audience that Ohio State won the national championship in 2014 after losing to Virginia Tech, and Clemson won it all after losing to Pitt in 2016.
“So it’s silly in October, as we sit here, to eliminate a team with one loss,” Dinich said, “(But) they’re not going to win against Auburn or Florid or anyone else if they continue to make those mistakes.”
