Finebaum: Clemson is ‘not better than Georgia’

Clemson and UGA are Nos. 2-3 in the latest rankings

Paul Finebaum’s job is to make brash opinions and stir up things.

The SEC Network personality appeared on ESPN Sports Center on Sunday, and got some Clemson fans to melt down with this statement, among other things:

“… You can look around and match (Clemson) up against Georgia. No, they’re not better than Georgia either.”

In fairness to Finebaum, it’s not a stretch for anyone to opine that any of the top five teams are better than the other ones – 1. Alabama, 2. Clemson, 3. UGA. 4. Ohio State and 5. LSU.

But how could UGA be better than Clemson when the Tigers are the reigning national champs (and “Bama beaters) and haven’t lost a game this season?

That’s because Clemson struggled again this weekend to escape with a narrow 21-20 win over North Carolina. The pollsters may agree with Finebaum, replacing Clemson with Alabama at the No. 1 spot in this week’s rankings.
