Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is going with the Bulldogs this weekend, but maybe not the ones you think.

On the Punt & Pass Podcast he co-hosts with former Georgia punter Drew Butler, Murray picked Mississippi State to upset UGA in Athens this weekend.

Murray even sounded surprised that he was making the pick.

“I’m going to be on the field and cheering the dogs on and I hope I’m wrong,” Murray said. “But I got Mississippi State winning this game.

“I hope I’m wrong and I home some Georgia fans are booing me come Saturday. It would make me the happiest man in the world.”

Murray picked a final score of 27-17. Butler, however, picked Georgia to win and cover a 6.5 point spread. You can hear the discussion at about the 26-minute mark of the podcast.

Mississippi State is coming off an impressive 37-7 win against LSU, but Georgia is also 3-0 and boasts a road win against Notre Dame.

Here’s some of the reaction to Murray’s bold pick:

Murray is clearly making the win-win play here. If Mississippi State wins, he’s right; if Georgia wins, which he says he’s rooting for — keyword rooting, not thinking — than his former team wins. That’s the kind of thinking that helps set the the SEC records shown in the picture.

But his former Bulldogs teammates are still giving him grief on Twitter for it.

Bulldogs and Bulldogs kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday night from Sanford Stadium.
