The meeting between the SEC on CBS broadcast team and Kirby Smart may be pretty awkward this week.

During the Iron Bowl on Saturday, CBS analyst Gary Danielson brought up the fact that during their meeting the week before, when Georgia was preparing for Kentucky, Smart mentioned that he had submitted six plays from the Georgia-Auburn game to the SEC for review.

Danielson, saying he “didn’t think it was off the record,” then relayed that information on air.

“He felt that Auburn got away with a lot of holds in the secondary against his receivers,” Danielson said during the game. “He sent in six plays to the SEC. He was not happy about what he had happen in that game.”

During his Monday press conference, Smart’s response to Danielson saying that on the broadcast was terse.

“Yeah, no comment,” Georgia’s second-year coach said.

And now Wednesday, Danielson has said that Smart should almost be thankful that Danielson publicized this information on the broadcast.

“Frankly, if I was Kirby, I’d be thrilled that I released that note,” he said on The Front Row radio show on Atlanta’s 680 The Fan. “Because you know who listens to games as well? The officials.”

Smart is likely not pleased that fans — and more importantly, Auburn’s players and coaches — now know he sent the plays in, but Danielson doesn’t seem too concerned.

“He shouldn’t have brought it up then,” Danielson said. “Too bad for him.”
