It started out common enough — an excited parent tweeted a picture of their children all ready for Georgia’s appearance in the Liberty Bowl. One of the kids was wearing a Nick Chubb jersey, the other wearing a Brian Herrien jersey.
After Georgia’s 31-23 win, Herrien and the rest of the team boarded the bus from Memphis and headed back to Athens. At some point during that trip, Herrien came across the picture of the child wearing his jersey and took the opportunity to give the kid a shoutout.
It didn’t end there, though.
As the Georgia caravan ended up needing to stop for gas, the fan wearing his jersey happened to be at the same gas station. After having it pointed out to him, Herrien came out, greeted the fan and signed his jersey, all chronicled in a tweet a short while later.
Although Herrien’s usage dropped off in the second half of the season, including just two carries against TCU, he still had a productive freshman season with 363 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 63 carries. His best game of the season came against South Carolina, where he ripped off 82 yards on just 9 carries.
