Georgia commit Nolan Smith bumped to No. 2 overall prospect by 247Sports
Bulldogs commitment and 5-star pass rusher Nolan Smith has found his way — almost — to the top of the 2019 recruiting rankings board.
Smith received a small boost to the No. 2 overall prospect in the country in the 247Sports rankings on Wednesday, which were updated following The Opening regional in Atlanta in March. He was previously No. 3 in the country. Smith now only trails defensive end Zach Harrison for the No. 1 spot.
Smith put on an absolute show at The Opening in Atlanta, so it makes sense for him to see a rise in the rankings. He ran a 4.51 40-yard dash, posted a vertical leap of 39.6 inches and launched a power ball 44.5 feet. Smith finished every test in the 99th percentile of his fellow 2019 recruits.
Here’s what 247Sports’ Barton Simmons had to say about moving him up their board:
“Smith’s freakish performance not only testing (at 6-3, 232 pounds, he ran a 4.51 in sub 40-degree weather) but during 1on1s has drawn Von Miller, Khalil Mack comparisons. The 3-4 OLB moves up from No. 3 in the country to No. 2 overall.”
This wasn’t the only good news for Georgia fans in the 247Sports update. Wide receiver commit Jordan Haselwood earned his fifth star and remains the No. 7 overall player in the country per the service. He’s the No. 2 overall player per 247Sports composite.
Here’s what Simmons had to say about Haselwood’s recent performances:
“If he hadn’t earned the bump at The Opening, he would have earned it at the Adidas 7on7 national championships two weeks later. The five-star bump was inevitable and now he’s gotten it after showcasing rare size, and downfield playmaking ability.”
