ATHENS — Georgia football has a surplus of talented defensive backs, 15 on scholarship, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise to see one of them enter into the transfer portal.
Divaad Wilson, a 6-0, 195-pound redshirt sophomore from Miami, Fla., announced Monday on Twitter he’s entering his name into the transfer portal to be closer to home.
Wilson played in 13 games last season, including starts at the “Star” position in games against Notre Dame and Kentucky.
Wilson’s mother recently shared a post on social media about the family’s appreciation for UGA defensive coordinator.

Georgia’s preseason roster reflected 89 scholarship athletes — a number that has to be down to 85 by the start of fall classes on Aug. 20.
The Bulldogs have a great deal of talent returning in the secondary, with three of four starters back in addition to top-rated incoming freshman Kelee Ringo.

The competition figures to be intense at the Star position with senior Mark Webb returning.
Sophomore Tyrique Stevenson and Ringo are other players who could push for time at the position Wilson was playing at Georgia.
Wilson’s signature moment with the Bulldogs came against the Irish when he intercepted a pass. He had 24 tackles over the course of the season.
