Georgia now has four commitments in the 2021 class after landing a pledge from 4-star defensive end Jonathan Jefferson. All four of those commitments hail from the state of Georgia. Combined, those four give the Bulldogs the No. 12 recruiting class in the country.

As is the case almost every year, the state of Georgia is loaded with great prospects. And after losing out on a number in-state prospects in the 2020 cycle, it seems Georgia has made a more serious effort to retain the top talent in its home state.

“I would never change how we recruit the state of Georgia,” Kirby Smart has previously said. “It’s home base, it’s primary, it’s A-number-one, most important. It doesn’t mean we’re going to get every kid.

“I mean, there’s some good players in the state that have left and we’ve fought to get.”

Georgia right now has commitments from three of the top 12 in-state prospects for the 2021 class. The only other school to have a commitment from a player in that range is Clemson, who has a commitment from Jordan Hancock, the state’s No. 9 ranked player.

So who might be the next in-state commitment to join the program? Well, Georgia commit Brock Vandagriff has a pretty good idea as the 5-star quarterback named 5-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims as that player.

Now if Vandagriff ends up being correct, it means that we will have to wait a while to see Georgia’s next in-state commit. Last week Mims announced that he would be committing on October 14, which is his birthday.

Mims is well worth waiting for though as he is the state’s top-ranked player and the No. 2 offensive tackle prospect in the country. He hails from Cochran, Ga and plays for Bleckley County High school. For all the top-ranked talent Smart has signed at Georgia, he still has not landed the best player from the state of Georgia. Landing Mims would change that.

The Bulldogs also got some encouraging in-state news on Friday when 4-star wide receiver Deion Colzie de-committed from Notre Dame. He is considered Georgia’s top outside wide receiver target and the No. 5 wide receiver overall in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

But those two are not the only elite talent still available. Below we’ve compiled a list of Georgia’s top in-state targets for the 2021 recruiting cycle and where they rank in the state of Georgia.
