ATHENS — The Georgia football team is a tired bunch at this stage of fall drills, including coach Kirby Smart.

The Bulldogs’ players trudged in after Saturday’s scrimmage at Sanford Stadium, uniforms grass stained, players discussing pending trips to the training room for treatment.

Moments later, Smart vented some frustration, irritated that reports of Zamir White’s knee injury had leaked out before he had a chance to address the media.

The injury to White’s left knee — the 5-star tailback has been wearing a brace on his right knee — occurred when he was in punt coverage.

Smart was asked about playing White on special teams, and he proceeded to explain that several star skill position players take part on those units.

The coach learned after the press conference that none of the media on hand reported the injury until after he confirmed it.

There were several hundred spectators allowed in, donors and parents of players, and the news was leaked on social media channels from those Smart cleared to attend the scrimmage.
