Georgia DL Chris Barnes announces intention to transfer
Defensive lineman Chris Barnes is leaving Georgia.
On Thursday, Barnes announced his intention to transfer in a note to Bulldogs fans on Instagram in which he wrote, “You have been with me on my journey and I’m grateful to you for everything.”
Barnes, a native of Leesburg, Ga., joined the Bulldogs as a 3-star member of the Class of 2016.

Barnes didn’t see the field often with Georgia. He made his college debut in a victory against Missouri last October. The 6-foot-3, 288-pound athlete redshirted during the 2016 season.
Barnes started his time in Athens on the offensive line. However, he was seen working with defensive linemen during the Bulldogs’ spring practices. Georgia has ample depth on the offensive line, so the move might have been an attempt to use Barnes to fill needs on the Bulldogs’ defensive front.
Georgia finished 13-2 last season. The Bulldogs open the 2018 campaign against Austin Peay on Sept. 1.
