As promised, Georgia coach Kirby Smart did in fact tweet through the 2019 Georgia football-Notre Dame contest that the Bulldogs ended up winning. And there were some pretty enlightening and illuminating points made by Smart throughout the afternoon.
From commenting on the atmosphere to praising some of Georgia’s top players and yes even some recruiting, Smart really did use the opportunity to make the most out of Virtual G-Day.
Below is a running stream on what Smart said throughout the course of the game.
Smart had some really high praise in the first half for outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari. While he might not have had the recruiting pedigrees that some of the other outside linebackers did, it’s easy to see after the Notre Dame game why he’s the best of the bunch.
Smart also took some time to praise J.R. Reed for breaking up a play on the goal line. And he also teased that he has a good idea who might be the replacement for the talented safety.
And 5-star 2021 safety James Williams seemed to take notice of Smart’s tweet.
Later on in the game, Smart did something similar with regards to the linebacker position and 4-star product Barrett Carter seemed to take notice of a similar Smart pitch.
Smart also made sure to try and recruit the running back position while also taking a shot at ESPN’s RBU rankings. He also called this game and weekend the best one Georgia had all year.
With Smart appearing on Facebook Live, he spoke about some of the challenges of installing a new offense. He did mention that Georgia recently was allowed to go from four hours of virtual meetings to eight hours but that Georgia doesn’t gain much from that because Georgia can’t meet with players during final exams.
Smart also talked about where Georgia might be if Jake Fromm had come back for his senior season and the quarterback position.
“You really don’t know what we have,” Smart said. “If we had Jake back we would be at a huge advantage. But we are at the complete opposite of that.”

Smart highlighted one specific play that he said “changed the entire game.” He was referring to Divaad Wilson’s third-quarter interception. The play only led to a Georgia field goal, but it marked a significant shift in the game’s momentum.
Smart did give some credit to the Notre Dame defense, while also rubbing a little salt in the wounds of the Florida Gators.
This was the play he was referencing.
Another big play that was highlighted during this game was D’Andre Swift’s hurdle of a Notre Dame defender. For those who forgot, Georgia football provided a number of different angles.
Smart was quick to credit Swift, but also Georgia strength and conditioning coach Scott Sinclair.
Swift finished the game with 98 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead the way for the Bulldogs.
The most memorable play of the game was Lawrence Cager’s big touchdown to give Georgia a double-digit lead.
There was also Reed’s tight-rope interception to stall out another Notre Dame drive.
Smart had a pretty great joke towards the end of the game about how close both this and the 2017 Notre Dame game were. The Georgia football account also had a little fun with Smart’s intense gameday demeanor.
Summing things up, Smart once again took time to thank the Georgia football fans for the difference they made on that Saturday in Athens.
A number of Georgia football players and coaches chimed in on the day as well.
