Georgia football and Kirby Smart are at it again on the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs land a commitment from 5-star outside linebacker prospect Mekhail Sherman.
Sherman becomes the eighth public commit for the Bulldogs and the second 5-star prospect to join the class. The outside linebacker from Washington D.C. is the nation’s No. 11 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings.

As per usual, a number of Georgia fans and coaches took to Twitter to celebrate the newest Bulldog commitment.
The Sherman news also comes on the same day Florida saw a 2021 4-star prospect de-commit and its top 2019 signee enter the transfer portal.
Sherman’s commitment moves the Georgia class back into the top 10, as the Bulldogs now have the No. 9 overall class in the country. That’s with only eight commitments, which is the fewest among teams in the top 10. Only Clemson, who has the nation’s No. 1 overall recruiting class, has a higher average recruit ranking.
The Sherman addition does once again put Georgia ahead of Georgia Tech in the recruiting rankings.
This is the first commitment of the month for the Bulldogs but it might not be the last. Tate Ratledge, a 4-star offensive tackle prospect, is set to announce his commitment decision on Monday. The Bulldogs picked up two commitments in April, as 4-star cornerback Jalen Kimber and 4-star offensive guard Akinola Ogunbiyi committed to the program.
DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell recently caught up with Sherman prior to his announcement. He explained what Georgia was able to do to set it apart from the likes of Ohio State and LSU, who were also recruiting Sherman.
“It is [just] the simple fact that they recruited my family as well just the same way they recruited me,” Sherman said earlier this year. “They realize how important my family is in my decision making.”
Georgia has recruited the linebacker spot very well underSmart. Georgia has signed the likes of 5-star Nakobe Dean and 5-star Nolan Smith in recent years to go along with a number of elite prospects.
My playing style is based off making offensive coordinator’s pregame night restless,” Sherman said.
