The No. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs host the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Bulldogs are massive favorites against the Gamecocks, as Georgia is a 24.5-point favorite.

Georgia is one of the few elite teams that doesn’t have a marquee game this weekend. No. 6 Oklahoma takes on No. 11 Texas, No. 7 Florida visits No. 5 LSU and No. 1 Alabama travels to No. 24 Texas A&M. No. 2 Clemson also hosts Florida State.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg took a deep look at those elite teams and what their potential fatal flaw might undue their season. For Georgia, Rittenberg targeted the Bulldogs’ conservative nature under Georgia coach Kirby Smart.

“Georgia is talented enough to bully most of its opponents with a power run game on offense and superlative speed on defense. That’s just the way coach Kirby Smart likes it,” Rittenberg said. “But at some point, the Bulldogs might need to turn things loose in the passing game with veteran quarterback Jake Fromm.”

Georgia’s schedule will get much tougher in the month of November when the Bulldogs play Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M and Missouri during the month.

That tough slate is part of the reason Yahoo’s Pat Forde does think there’s a chance the Bulldogs could drop a game before the end of the season. Forde added that Georgia could be an underdog against Auburn and theoretically Alabama, should the two meet in the SEC championship game, in terms of point spread.

“The competition is formidable, but the locations are favorable,” Forde wrote.  “Four home games, a 50-50 crowd split in Jacksonville against the Gators, a short jaunt across the Chattahoochee River to Auburn, a drive to Atlanta to play Tech in front of a lot of red shirts, and a potential SEC title game in Atlanta as well. If Georgia gets to the SEC championship game undefeated, it could perhaps absorb a loss there (to nemesis Alabama?) and still make the playoff.”

Georgia did lose to Auburn when the Bulldogs visited in 2017. But the Bulldogs have beaten Florida the last two seasons by a combined score of 78-24.

ESPN’s bowl projections are split on where the Bulldogs finish their season. Mark Schlabach has Georgia playing in the national championship game, while Kyle Bonagura has the Bulldogs playing Texas in the Sugar Bowl. Georgia and Texas met in the Sugar Bowl last season, with the Longhorns winning 28-21. Schlabach had Georgia playing and beat Oklahoma in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to advance to the title game.

Pro Football Focus put out its ranking of all of the college football quarterbacks. Georgia’s Jake Fromm came in at No. 6. Joe Burrow came in at No. 1, Jalen Hurts at No. 2, Tua Tagovailoa at No. 3, Justin Fields at No. 4 and Sam Ehlinger at No. 5.

Fromm was praised for his ability to avoid negative plays and show that he’s capable of doing more when asked.

“He hasn’t been tasked with much through the first six weeks of the season but when his team has needed him, Fromm has delivered,” the site said about Fromm. “He connected on many sharp passes during the team’s victory over Notre Dame and he’s just been an accurate passer who takes what the defense gives him so far. He’s avoiding negatively-graded plays at an extremely high rate while putting forth positively-graded attempts at another absurd rate in its own regard.”

On the season, Fromm has thrown 8 touchdowns while also completing 77.5 percent of his passes. Fromm is also one of six quarterbacks who has yet to throw an interception this season with a minimum of at least 100 pass attempts.
