Georgia football controls its own destiny in the College Football Playoff race, but its chances of backing into a playoff spot appear to be gone after Oklahoma won the Big 12 Championship on Saturday.

The Sooners were ranked No. 5 in the penultimate playoff rankings this week, one spot behind No. 4 Georgia. If Oklahoma and No. 6 Ohio State both lost this weekend, there might have been an outside chance of the Bulldogs sneaking into the playoff field with two losses.

However, Oklahoma took care of business against Texas 39-27 to clinch the Big 12 title and put itself in prime position for a playoff spot. If Alabama beats Georgia, the Sooners (12-1) are expected move ahead of the Bulldogs and lock up the final spot in the field behind the Crimson Tide, Clemson and Notre Dame.

The Bulldogs’ playoff fate still rests in their own hands though. A win over No. 1 Alabama in the SEC Championship Game would guarantee Georgia a playoff spot for the second year in a row.
