ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sophomore left tackle Andrew Thomas is out for the Middle Tennessee game on account of an ankle injury suffered at South Carolina.

Thomas was held out of practice through Wednesday because of a sprained ankle. Media is not allowed to see practices on Thursday or Friday, but Thomas was on the sideline during pregame with a boot on his injured left ankle. Thomas and Jake Fromm were named to the FWAA Freshman All-American team following the 2017 season.

True freshman Cade Mays, a 5-star prospect from Knoxville, is expected to start in place of Thomas at left tackle. Mays came on in relief of Thomas in the third quarter last Saturday.

The Bulldogs were as close to full strength as they have been in their 41-17 win against the Gamecocks.

Defensive back Tyrique McGhee returned from a broken bone in his foot that kept him out of the opening game, and senior receiver Terry Godwin was back from the calf and knee injuries that kept him out for much of fall practice.
