ATHENS – Georgia sophomore Michael Chigbu, a key member of the receiver rotation this season, might not be able to play Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Chigbu’s knee is bothering him and might need to be drained of fluid, head coach Kirby Smart said after Tuesday’s practice, which Chigbu missed.

“We don’t know how serious it is,” Smart said. “We’re investigating it. We don’t know if he’ll be able to go this weekend or not. It may be a situation where he has to drain some stuff off of his knee but we won’t know until probably tonight.”

Chigbu, who has started six games, has nine catches for 88 yards this season.

It’s the latest hit to the receiver position. Sophomore Jayson Stanley, who has started five games though caught no passes, is expected to miss a third straight game with a foot injury.

Senior Reggie Davis missed the Auburn game with a shoulder problem, but he’s been practicing this week.

“We’re hoping Reggie will be ready to go,” Smart said.
