ATHENS — Georgia did sustain one injury to a starter in Friday’s scrimmage, and it seems likely to carry into the season.

Fullback Christian Payne, a walk-on who has been running first-team this preseason, suffered a “small crack” in his fibula, according to a Facebook post by his mother, Anita Payne:

“Prayer request for Christian Payne!! Got small crack in fibula this afternoon at practice. No surgery or cast needed, just crutches for about 4 weeks of healing. Pray for patience and healing!”

Payne is a sophomore from Athens, where he attended Price Avenue Christian School. He played in seven games last year for the Bulldogs, starting one.

Quayvon Hicks, the senior who has started off and on during his career, should move up to first team.
