Georgia Tech coach angers UGA fans by doing 10 pushups on sidelines after big play
Geoff Collins has brought some interesting new traditions to Georgia Tech in his first year as head coach.
To the anger of some UGA fans, Collins did one of his new customs after the Yellow Jackets made a big play in the second quarter of Saturday’s showdown between the in-state rivals.
After Georgia Tech surprised UGA with a successful onsides kick, Collins celebrated the extra possession … by doing 10 pushups right there on the sidelines in front of cheering players and assistant coaches … as the national TV audience watched on.
As you expect, it didn’t go over well with UGA fans, as you can see from the tweets below.
In fairness to Collins, he probably had some extra adrenaline since Georgia Tech was listed as a heavy underdog and the Jackets appeared to be in danger of being blown out early – before some UGA self-inflicted wounds kept the game close in the opening half.
In another new Georgia Tech tradition on Saturday, several of the team’s players worked out with weights as part of the pre-game warmups.
Back to the 10 pushups: Apparently this was a unique tradition that Collins started at Temple.
Hopefully for UGA, Collins won’t get much of a workout in the second half.
