WATCH: Georgia football QB Jake Fromm gives take on early enrollees
ATHENS — Georgia football captain Jake Fromm has been impressed with the Bulldogs’ 14 mid-year enrollees.
Fromm, a 2019 Heisman Trophy candidate who will be a three-year starting quarterback this season, said the freshmen players’ work ethic and level of physical development in striking
“Those guys are coming in and working hard, every single one of those guys,” Fromm said on Bulldogs Game Day. “You can’t look into the weight room and say, ‘All right, that guy is definitely an early enrollee, you can’t tell.
“These guys are big, you know they are coming in ready.”
That’s good news for Georgia as it looks to replace several starters off last season’s Top 10-ranked, SEC East Division championship team.
The receiver and tight end positions were hit especially hard with attrition, and there’s room for impact players at linebacker.
Riley Ridley, who led the Bulldogs in receptions, is among four of the five top pass catchers from the 2018 season who aren’t coming back.
Incoming 5-star freshman Dominick Blaylock is among the most impressive of the early signees, according to sources who have seen him workout.
Departing junior tight end Isaac Nauta also leaves a gap that incoming Tennessee graduate transfer Eli Wolf will look to help fill when he arrives this summer.
The departure of sack leader D’Andre Walker at outside linebacker is cause for concern, but 5-star signee Nolan Smith and Jermaine Johnson could be the perfect cure.
