ATHENS — The only thing more on point than the Georgia offensive line and Jake Fromm this spring has been the Bulldogs’ film crew.

Two more highlight videos fro the weekend captured the intensity of the third Saturday of Coach Kirby Smart’s fourth spring football session.

This time around, Georgia was in Sanford Stadium for a scrimmage, and that only seemed to amp things up more.

The first big hit featured showed junior inside linebacker Nate McBride de-cleating receiver Tommy Bush, taking the lanky 6-foot-5, 195-pound redshirt freshman off his feet.

Another clip showed redshirt sophomore Matt Landers, who appears to be emerging as the No. 4 receiver behind J.J. Holloman, Tyler Simmons and Demetris Robertson, with a nifty cutback after a catch.

The stepped up receiver play was notable.

Smart challenged the receivers last Tuesday, identifying that position group as one needing work.

“We’ve got to get some guys who can catch the ball consistently and make plays downfield,” Smart said. “The biggest part we haven’t seen with this team is experience with receivers.”

Smart also referenced UGA losing three of the top four receivers from 2018.

“I’m not down on the receivers, don’t get me wrong, the biggest drop off right now on our team when you compare this year to last year, he biggest drop off is probably at receiver for obvious reasons,” he said.

Freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis had an opportunity to show off his big arm in the scrimmage highlights, uncorking what looked to be a pass over 40 yards.

Holloman, the favorite to be the go-to receiver, made an incredible leaping catch over cornerback Eric Stokes to finish the play.

In the next frame, Fromm is seen firing a bullet to Simmons, who ranks as one of the quickest and toughest players on the team. Simmons figures to be a popular third down target with his ability to get open and sticky hands.

Simmons takes a hit from early enrollee freshmen Tyrique Stevenson and Nolan Smith at the end of the play.

The secondary scored its points with the head coach, too, when defensive back Christopher Smith picked off a Mathis pass that glanced off the hands of a leaping Bush.

Another highlight featured Fromm connecting with tight end Charlie Woerner, and then it was Landers soaring high to pull down a pass over newcomer D.J. Daniel.

Fromm looked good on another throw to Kearis Jackson to close the highlight tape.

A second highlight video surfaced on Sunday, this one featuring more one-on-one hitting via a Georgia hitting drill.

Big Ben Cleveland opened up the hitting drill locking up with veteran defensive lineman Tyler Clark.

The Bulldogs then featured redshirt freshman running back Garrett Jones getting slammed to the turf by Nolan Smith.

Early enrollee offensive lineman Clay Webb was matched up with junior defensive end Justin Young, who appeared to push him back in the drill.

Tailback Brian Herrien looked as aggressive as ever, charging into outside linebacker Adam Anderson in what is becoming a regular grudge match in drill work.

Herrien ran over Anderson last time, but this time Anderson wrapped him up effectively.

Landers showed more moves in the open field when he left a hard-charging William Poole grasping at air.

In a matchup of starters, Charlie Woerner locked up Tae Crowder with an open field block before Monty Rice close on D’Andre Swift.

Christopher Smith showed his tackling ability before the end of the video, wrapping up Demetrius Robertson.
