A challenging year took another tough turn for former Georgia football star Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly.

The latest drama involved Matthew Stafford being placed on the NFL’s COVID-19 list after what the family and the Detroit Lions say was a false-positive test for the coronavirus.

Kelly Stafford took to Instagram on Tuesday to explain that Matt has since tested negative four times. This, after the family also tested negative following Matthew’s original (false) positive test result.

“I have been losing my mind because of how my Family has been treated since my husband was put on COVID-19 IR,” said Kelly, a former UGA cheerleader who met Matt while at Georgia.

“Even after we knew it was false positive, our school told us they (children) were not allowed back, I was approached in a grocery store and told I was ‘endangering others,’ my kids were harassed and kicked off the playground… “

Matthew Stafford has been removed from the NFL’s COVID-19 list, but not before his wife and children went through the hassles.

Kelly Stafford said she was also told she needed to wait in the car while picking up food, and those closest to the family were required to be tested for COVID-19 before returning to their respective workplaces.

Kelly Stafford understands others’ concerns amid these tough times.

But, she explained, that heightened state of alarm is why the NFL should be “absolutely positive” about a test result before publicizing the players on the COVID-19 list.

It has indeed been a rough ride for the famous Georgia football family the past year-and-a-half.

Kelly Stafford underwent a 12-hour surgical procedure to remove a tumor from her brain in April of 2019.

Matthew Stafford, himself, had plenty of work to do to get back from an injury he suffered last November against Oakland.

Stafford suffered broken bones in his back against the Raiders, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Stafford has been working hard to be ready for his 12th season, having invested time in young teammates and former UGA stars D’Andre Swift and Isaac Nauta this summer, among others.

Alas, Matthew has also balanced time with his home life. Kelly Stafford gave birth to the couple’s fourth child in June amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Georgia football fans have followed Matthew Stafford’s career throughout his time with the Lions, and Kelly Stafford’s colorful Instagram account has become a favorite among Bulldogs’ fans who support the family from afar.

Kelly Stafford thanked all the fans for their thoughts and concerns in Tuesday’s Instagram post:
