ATHENS — Georgia football is zeroed in on making a run to the College Football Playoffs, and it seems off to a good start with a 4-0 record and no season-ending injuries.

A panel of ESPN experts, however, are largely of the mindset that if the season ended today, the Bulldogs wouldn’t be in the four-team field.

Only three of the 14 ESPN writers polled would put Georgia in their four-team field after Week 5.

Alabama was listed by all 14 experts as being a playoff team, Clemson currently belongs in the CFP Final Four according to 11 of 14, and Ohio State was selected as a CFP team by 8 of 14 “experts.”

Even LSU (6 of 14) and Auburn (4 of 14) received more love from the ESPN panel than Georgia.

The Bulldogs, of course, remain in control of their own destiny starting with a 7 p.m. game at Tennessee next Saturday.

Georgia’s resume figures to look better by the end of October.

UGA’s October slate includes home games with South Carolina (Oct. 12) and Kentucky (Oct. 19).

The Bulldogs have a bye week on Oct. 26 before getting on an airplane to fly to Florida to play the Gators in Jacksonville.
