SAVANNAH — There will indeed be one less quarterback on Georgia’s roster, one who looked pretty good at G-Day and is from the West Coast.
Nick Robinson, the walk-on from California, is leaving the team to presumably seek a scholarship elsewhere, head coach Kirby Smart confirmed on Monday.
“He came and talked to me and told me he’s going to look around and explore some options,” Smart said. “He’s the only guy we’ve really talked to about that.”
Robinson, whose destination is unknown at this point, was the team’s fourth-string quarterback last year, behind the three scholarship quarterbacks. And he was the only walk-on who got snaps on G-Day, going 5-for-7 for 49 yards and one touchdown, prompting Smart to say “that fourth quarterback did a pretty good job, didn’t he?”
Robinson, who was generously listed at 6-foot-1 in the media guide, joined the Bulldogs last year as a recruited walk-on from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
