Former Georgia running back Herschel Walker may be 54 years old and nearly 20 years removed from playing his last down in the NFL, but he has no doubts as to whether he still could play in pro football’s most prestigious league.
“I don’t think I can. I know I can,” Walker told Omnisport’s Ron Clements. “In a third-down situation, I could help a team out today. I could do a few things and do it well.”
Former Bulldogs quarterback Buck Belue, who played for the team from 1978-81, believes in Walker’s abilities.
@Carvell_AJC 3rd Down RB: throw it to him on arrow route, seam or flat, run draw, he can pass block. He's tough & fit. Incredible athlete.

Walker is reportedly training for a mixed martial arts fight with promoter Bellator, though it has been five years since Walker last fought. He is 2–0 in MMA action.
Walker also said in his interview with Omnisport that he’s impressed with another former Bulldogs running back standout in Todd Gurley, who was named the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year this past February after rushing for 1,106 yards in 2015.
“This guy can really play,” Walker said of Gurley. “And he can catch the ball. That’s what you want your running back to be able to do. You want him to be able to be more than just a running back. “People should be excited about what Todd Gurley’s going to do.”
