ATHENS — Maybe this is the week the black jerseys return at Georgia. Head coach Kirby Smart just isn’t saying.

Before the season began, athletics director Greg McGarity said they would wear black jerseys once a year, starting this year. The game wasn’t specified, but Georgia’s own web site before the season urged fans to wear black for the Nov. 19 game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

“Whenever the black jerseys are worn, people will know well in advance of it,” McGarity said in August. “It’s not a gimmick, it won’t be a surprise. It will be up to coach Smart to make that call, but it will be a home game.”

But when Smart was asked at Monday’s press conference about the black jerseys – the reporter prefaced it by saying they haven’t confirmed this will be the week – Smart had a short answer.

“We haven’t confirmed that yet. You’re right,” Smart said.

He did not smile.
