ATHENS — Chris Barnes, who committed to the previous offensive staff at Georgia, has officially signed to play for the new one.

Barnes, an offensive lineman from Lee County High School in Leesburg, turned in his letter-of-intent, Georgia announced. Barnes was the second LOI to arrive on Wednesday morning.

He is rated a three-star prospect, No. 45 at his position and the No. 48 overall prospect in the state of Georgia.

It will be interesting to see how the new Georgia staff uses Barnes (listed at 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds). He doesn’t fit the mold that new offensive line coach Sam Pittman apparently wants. But while Pittman and the staff slow-played a few other recruits the previous staff had recruited, they held on to Barnes.

Georgia’s offensive line has plenty of depth in 2016, so it’s conceivable the staff could let Barnes take a redshirt year to bulk up.
