It’s official: No. 1-ranked LSU and No. 4 UGA will square off against each other in the SEC Championship game.

After LSU beat Alabama, it was pretty much a given that the Tigers would represent the SEC West in the conference championship game.

But nothing was official until LSU beat Arkansas 56-20 on Saturday night, with the Tigers falling short of covering a 46-point spread.

LSU plays Texas A&M next week, and even the Tigers lose and end up tied for first in the SEC West with No. 5 Alabama, they will still play in the conference championship due to a head-to-head win vs. Alabama.

Meanwhile, UGA clinched the SEC East championship with a narrow win over Auburn last week.

As far as the college playoffs, it looks like UGA needs to beat LSU (and Georgia Tech next week) to make the four-team field, while LSU will be in there — win or lose to the Bulldogs. The only thing that would ruin that plan for LSU would be if it lost to Texas A&M next week.
