ATHENS — Jake Fromm knows things on offense weren’t perfect against Murray State, but the Georgia starting quarterback doesn’t want to get overly consumed with that.

The No. 3-ranked Bulldogs beat Murray State 63-17 on Saturday at Sanford Stadium, and Fromm wants to keep the win in the proper perspective.

“You’re setting the expectations and standards high, and you want to play as great as you can, and you’re chasing perfection,” Fromm said. “You understand you’re never going to get there, but for me, I really want to have the joy in playing football. I don’t want to be chasing so hard that I’m always down on myself, because I didn’t quite play perfect.

“So for me that’s something I’m going to work on, is constantly seeing the joy in football and having fun with my teammates.”

Fromm might not have been perfect, but his numbers were close to ideal. The Bulldogs’ third-year starter was 10-of-11 passing for 166 yards and a touchdown before exiting in the second quarter after seven series.

“I thought we could have came out a little faster,” said Fromm, referring to the teams being tied 7-7 after one quarter. “But we played really well in the second quarter.”

Fromm’s connections with freshman receiver George Pickens were one reason why. Fromm and Pickens hooked up three times for 68 yards in the second quarter alone.

Fromm also found tight end Eli Wolf on multiple occasions, connecting with him four times for 73 yards in the first half.

The Bulldogs were 2-of-3 on third down conversions with Fromm in the game and 8-of-10 overall. It was a steep improvement from the opener, when Fromm was just 1-of-7 on third down conversions.

“We were well over 85 percent on third downs,” Fromm noted, “so that’s always good to see.”

Fromm explained why he was also happy so many players got into the game against Murray State.

“A lot of guys can help our team, they can help the team in practice through pushing the older guys and you never know when your number will be called,” Fromm said.

“It was an opportunity for them to grow and make some plays.”
