Remarks from Kirby Smart at his post G-Day press conference.

When asked for his opening remarks: “Opening remarks would be: Wow. .. There were a lot of doubters out there.”

On how this will help recruiting: “You’ll see. Because they were there. And they were all fired up. They were ecstatic. There were a lot of good players out there.”

On Jacob Eason at end of the first half: “Just being out there, I don’t think he knew there was 93,000 people out there. Because he sure didn’t act like he cared. … He was a very level-headed kid.”

On the quarterback situation heading into the summer: “I’m going to say it again. The summer months for us are going to be for us to observe those guys and (see them) grow.”

People will say that Eason will need to start: “Will they? … Then I’ll see they need to go to Coaching 101. … Because I don’t see that being the case. What I see is three guys, all of whom have different traits. And all of them having improving to do.”

More on Eason, who a reporter pointed out ‘throws BB’s: “He  throws BBs. Sometimes he throws BBs to the other team, sometimes he throws BBs to our team … Again, I’m glad everyone came out to see Jacob Eason … But the guy that starts against North Carolina will be the guy that gives us the best chance to win the game.”

On why the offense and defense was “vanilla” on both sides: “This game was going to be televised. We didn’t want North Carolina to see all of our calls.”

Julian Rochester and Chad Clay played in the game, their discipline still pending: “They will be disciplined in an appropriate manner.”

The kicking game: “(William) Ham has kicked really well all spring. I know that’s shocking to you after today. But some of that was due to a low snap. … Ham and (Rodrigo) Blankenship have both kicked well. I know Brice hit the one bomb. But the punting has been a bigger issue than the field goals.”

Where is your program now? “I was obviously coming from a machine over there, where we had all these players. … It’s hard because that’s all I have to compare it to.”
