Kirby Smart cracks a joke about South Carolina coach before game
Perhaps the most worn-out storyline when UGA plays South Carolina each year is about how the two head coaches are former Bulldogs football teammates and longtime friends.
ESPN couldn’t resist asking UGA’s Kirby Smart about the topic as part of the “College GameDay” show, and it generated a hilarious response from the leader of the Bulldogs.
ESPN: “What’s this I hear about Coach Muschamp owning you on the basketball court?”
Smart: “You’d have to ask (Muschamp) that, because he’s the only person who claims that.”
Burn!
Both Smart and Muschamp were defensive backs for the Bulldogs in the mid-1990s. Muschamp gave Smart one his biggest breaks in coaching when he hired him as an assistant at Valdosta State in 2000.
Smart is 3-0 in head-to-head coaching against his buddy. UGA is heavy favorites to extend that streak to 4-0 against Muschamp-coached teams today.
